Dr Hwang completed her PhD in 2021 on Callous-Unemotional Traits in South Korean Primary Schools: Relationships with Intra-individual and Interpersonal School-related Factors. She disseminated her findings in the Journal of Youth and Adolescence, Journal of Clinical Child and Adolescent Psychology, and the British Journal of Educational Psychology, see publications page. Now back in South Korea,
Dr Hwang continues to collaborate with the SHINE lab on meta-analyses and theoretical papers.

Dr Cao completed her PhD in 2023 on Callous-Unemotional (CU) Traits, Disruptive Behaviour, Teacher-Child Interaction and the Teacher-Parent Relationship in the Chinese Preschool Context. She has disseminated her findings in Teaching and Teacher Education and Research on Child and Adolescent Psychopathology, see publications page. Dr Cao is now a Lecturer in Education at Central China Normal University.

Dr Chen completed her PhD in 2023 on Parental Influences on the Educational Aspirations of Left-Behind Children in China. She has disseminated her findings in Social Psychology of Education and the Journal of Child and Family Studies, see publications page. Dr Chen is now back in her native China, and Dr Cao and I enjoyed meeting up with her in Borneo, Malaysia for the International Conference on Child and Adolescent Psychopathology in 2023.

Dr Chhoa completed her PhD on Callous-Unemotional Traits and Responsiveness to Rewards and Discipline in Young Children in 2024. Celine was active in setting up SHINE and designed our website. She has published her research in the Journal of Abnormal Child Psychology, Frontiers in Education, European Child and Adolescent Psychiatry and Emotional and Behavioural Difficulties, see publications page. Mohini Howlader

MRes Project: Parent Monitoring Knowledge as a Protective Factor against Delinquency in Adolescents exposed to Parental Intimate Partner Violence
Mohini achieved her MRes at the University of Bath with Distinction in 2024, and her findings are currently under review in an international peer-reviewed journal, watch this space! She is currently working as a Research Assistant in the School of Psychological Science, University of Bristol.

Hannah Bushell

MRes Project: Does teaching assistant support for students with Special Educational Needs relate to attainment, peer relationships, and teacher-student relationships? A cross-sectional analysis of the Millennium Cohort Study.
Hannah achieved her MRes at the University of Bath with Distinction in 2025, and is currently writing up her findings for publication, watch this space!

Beth Bird
Former MSc Student - UCL
MSc Project: Callous-Unemotional Traits, Quality of the Teacher-Child Relationship, and Academic Outcomes
Beth's results were presented in a poster at the 2017 SRCD conference in Austin, Texas. Three papers from her MSc research have been published in Frontiers in Education, the British Journal of Educational Psychology and the Journal of Abnormal Child Psychology: see our publications page. After her MSc, Beth went on to train as a social worker.

Rebecca Lerman
Former MSc Student
Rebecca developed a questionnaire to assess teacher responses to anxiety in children (TRAC) as part of her MSc Child Development. This questionnaire is freely available on our Measures page. Rebecca is a Senior Lecturer at Middlesex University, specializing in teacher training. ​For the TRAC questionnaire article, please see our publications page.

Amy Morris

Vanessa completed an MSc in Child Development in the SHINE lab and subsequently conducted a systematic review on parent and child risk and protective factors for child externalizing problems following exposure to domestic violence.

Vanessa is currently completing a PhD in Developmental Psychology at Simon Fraser University, Canada.
